The pit Scherlebeck

In the north of Herten at the Scherlebecker Straße an ensemble of buildings of the former pit V/VI of the coalmine Schlägel & Eisen could be preserved and reconstructed with the aid of the land NRW. The complex was activated on the first august in 1898. Because of her impressively architecture and equipped with the newest technology the “pit Scherlebeck” became a model to be presented. Still in a good condition and based upon agreement of the “Förderverein Schacht V” one of the two steam twin hoists is to be visit.

Situated in the complex are kindergarten, day care for older people, job creation and reskilling company of the Workers`Welfare Association of the Kreis Recklinghausen (rebeq) and a district club, which is conducted by the development association Schacht 5. The machine hall, which strikes by its architectural interesting period of promoterism-façade, offers through its southward direction and because of the numerous round arched windows outstanding conditions for the realization of most different kinds of exhibition concepts. The machine hall and the district club can also be used as an exceptional venue for internal and private festivities and events.
